Seminar on Financial Literacy at Barishal University

Midland Bank PLC. in collaboration with Barishal University Finance Club of Barishal University jointly organized a seminar captioned “Financial Literacy” on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at University Campus.

The seminar was conducted with the aim of equipping students with essential and basic financial skills for taking informed decision for personal financial management.

The speakers explained to the audience the importance of financial literacy along with digital financial literacy, focusing on personal financial planning, personal financial diary, budgeting, saving, benefit of compounding, passive income, reserve fund, retirement financial plans, individual financial behavior model (50:30:20 Model) and IT awareness while doing digital banking.

The seminar was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Mohammad Taufiq Alam, Vice-Chancellor, who warmly welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of such initiatives. He expressed gratitude to Midland Bank PLC. for their collaboration and encouraged them to organize similar sessions in the future. He also urges faculty members how this practical knowledge and skills can be introduced for students.

The Midland Bank PLC. was represented by Mr. Mohammad Faruq Ur Rahman, Manager, Financial Literacy Wing and Head of Liability (Retail), Retail Distribution Division, Mr. A.H.M. Gazzali, Cluster Head-2 & Mr. Md. Azmal Hossain, Branch Manager, Barishal Branch.

The program was also attended by Mis. Tandra Mondal, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Finance and Banking, Mr. Md. Mahtab Uddin, Assistant Professor, Department of Finance and Banking, Mis. Nusrat Jahan Benozir, Assistant Professor, Department of Finance and Banking.

This successful event not only enhanced students’ understanding of financial literacy but also inspired them to apply the knowledge in managing their personal financial management.
